Barbara Bills

Funeral services for Barbara Dell Bills, 82, of Houston are set for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell, with Rev. Billy Sutherland officiating. Interment will follow at Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. the morning of the service, also at the funeral home. Mrs. Bills passed away on September 19, 2017 in Houston, Texas.

There will also be a Memorial service at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, September 24, 2017 at Greenwood Village Baptist, 20300 Cypresswood Dr. Humble, Texas 77338.

On February 20, 1935 in Rockdale, TX, Barbara Dell Winkler Bills was born to Homer & Georgia Caywood Winkler. The family moved to Galveston, TX where she attended school thru the sixth grade. They then moved to Texas City, TX where she attended Jr. and Sr. High School and later relocated to Caldwell, TX.

On April 3, 1953 she married Jimmie Joe Bills, her husband of 62 yrs. To this union 6 children were born.

Barbara met her Savior, Jesus Christ, in February of 1958 and was baptized at Stewart Heights Baptist Church in Baytown, TX. In March of 1968, she surrendered her life to the Lord at Prairie Garden Baptist Church in Houston and has remained a faithful servant to Him. Her first love in the church was primarily in the music field…playing the organ, piano and singing in the choir for many years in Houston. She was pianist for six years at Harmony Baptist Church in Caldwell, TX before moving back to Houston in 1998. She also worked with those doing special music and with children’s choirs; directing Christmas plays and Vacation Bible Schools. She taught Sunday School at Prairie Garden Baptist and was one of the Missions Director in Caldwell @ Harmony Baptist and in Houston at Westway Baptist Church. She also served as Nursery Coordinator for Prairie Garden Baptist Church and Westway Baptist Church in Houston for several years. She volunteered countless hours at the Harris County Precinct 4 Mangum-Howell Center (Doss Park) and served on the Board.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jimmie; daughter, Betty Ann; and brother, Leonard Winkler, Jr.

She is survived by three sons; Edward Allen & wife Kim of Houston TX; Dennis Ray of Pinehurst TX, and David Wayne and fiancée, Kathy Sturdivant of Marion, TX.; two daughters; Jackie Diane Washington & husband, Jim, of Houston, TX and Barbara Jo (Bobbie) Drown & husband, Larry, of Spring, TX; as well as, 14 grandchildren; Wesley Bills & wife Wendy; James Bills & wife Misty, Jimmy Bills & wife Diana, Angel Luhan and husband Chris, Dana Carter & husband Clay, Rachel Bills, Garret Bills, Marshall Dodson, Philip Washington, Jack Washington, Christopher Alumbaugh, Amy Alumbaugh, Amber Drown and Eric Drown; 15 great-grandchildren; Trey, Lindsy & Josey Bills, Courtlyn & Chelsea Bills, Liliana, Daisy, and Anderson Bills; Kinlee & Elijah (EJ) Luhan, Maggie, Trevor and Emily Carter, Hayden & Landen Alumbaugh; one nephew, Leonard Winkler, III & wife Christie; two nieces: Cynthia Dotson and husband, Johnny; Tammy Marek and one great niece, Hayley Fritcher plus many cousins and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be: Wesley Bills, James Bills, Jimmy Bills, Marshall Dodson, Chris Alumbaugh, Larry Drown, and Jim Washington. Eric Drown and Garnet Bills will serve as honorary bearers.
