Funeral services for Betty Jo (Johnson) Grubbs, 82, of Caldwell are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 21, 2019 at Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Caldwell, with Revs. Ronnie Johnson, Michael Johnson, and Dennis Maddox officiating. Interment will follow at Chriesman Cemetery in Chriesman, Texas. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 20, 2019 also at the funeral home. Mrs. Grubbs passed away November 18, 2019 in Caldwell.
Betty was born January 15, 1937 to Jimmy Lock Johnson and Lona (Bell) Johnson in Henryetta, Oklahoma. She married James “J.P.” Grubbs on September 15, 1950 and was baptized in Willis, Texas in 1965.
Betty was a member of the Abundant Life Tabernacle Church in Caldwell. Her hobbies included jigsaw puzzles and attending all the sporting events her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren played and/or coached. She spent her life loving and taking care of her family, and during her time at Copperas Hollow Nursing Home she continued with this by taking care of other residents and facility workers as well.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James “J.P.” Grubbs; daughter, Barbara Grubbs; son, James Ray Grubbs; brother, Marion Edward Johnson; and sisters, Patsy Henderson and Pauline Johnson.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, James & Kathy Grubbs of Deanville, Texas, Dennis & Melanie Grubbs of Cypress, Texas, Travis & Breta Grubbs of High Island, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Legg of Porter, Texas, Patricia Clarke of Humble, Texas, Biddy & Jerry Busby of Deanville, Texas, Sharon & Steve Matthews of Humble, Texas, Tammie & Matthew Nelson of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Tina & Darren Broesche of Deanville, Texas; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jimmy & Billie Johnson of Park Hills, Missouri, Johnny & Linda Johnson of Conroe, Texas, Ronnie & Vickie Johnson of Hearne, Texas, Donnie & Jimmie Johnson of Lindale, Texas, Martha Johnson (sister-in-law) of Franklin, Texas; sister, Lois Schultze of Conroe, Texas; grandchildren, Denise & Kevin Long, Charles & Tonya Barnes, Chad & Katie Barnes, Vickie Legg, Vernon Legg, Kim & Paul Moncus, Mitchell & Cynthia Cooper, Dara & Lee Pomykal, Cody & Bethany Grubbs, Mollie & Jonathan Drevecky, Lindsey &: Lorenzo Fuentes, James Nelson, Hannah Grubbs, Jordan Grubbs, Ryan Roehling, Ross Roehling; great-grandchildren, Kaydie & Kacey Degelia, Kaycie Long, Landon Barnes, Logan Barnes, Bailey Barnes, Callie Barnes, Myra Moncus, Lydia Moncus, Kira Pomykal, Kobe Pomykal, Drayton Drevecky, Zeke Fuentes, Derek Cooper; adopted great-grandchildren, Payton Busby, Scarlett Cope; and many other loved ones and family friends.
Pallbearers will be her nephews, Chris Grubbs, Buddy Grubbs, Alvin White, Calvin White, Will Johnson, George Johnson, Richard Johnson, and Donnie Johnson, Jr. Acting as honorary pallbearers will be nephews, Jerry White, Michael Johnson, Ronnie Johnson, and Jimmy Johnson.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Copperas Hollow Nursing and Rehab Center in Caldwell, Texas.
