Carol Hughes

Services for Carol A. (Gilliam) Hughes, 55, of Caldwell are set for 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Caldwell with Rev. Steve Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Chriesman Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, April 3, 2017 at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell. Mrs. Hughes passed peacefully at home at sunset surrounded by her family and friends on March 31, 2017.

Carol was born December 19, 1961 to Willis H. Gilliam and JoAnne Barak in Grayson, Kentucky. On January 9, 1982 Carol married her high school sweetheart, Todd Willis Hughes. Carol had been known to say “I was born in Kentucky, but I got to Texas as soon as I could at two years old”.

Carol was a member of the First Baptist Church of Caldwell. She taught school for 30 years with the Caldwell ISD, after graduating from Texas A & M. She taught swimming lessons and volunteered with the Caldwell pool, and was involved with the Burleson County 4H.

Carol was preceded in death by her father and husband.

She is survived by her mother, JoAnne Barak of Bryan; daughters and sons-in-law, Erin & Joshua Lloyd of Caldwell, Kendra & Ben Jones of Leander; sisters, Cyndi Schoen and Crystal Gilliam both of Bryan; grandchildren, Kenner, Kyleigh, Zechariah, Kingsley, Caleb; and special friend Johnny Lowe.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Lloyd, Ben Jones, Charles Barak, Cliff Helphenstine, Keta Dawson, Franklin Weeber, and Cody Cravens. Kenner Mantey will act as honorary pallbearer.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Todd Hughes Memorial Scholarship Fund @ Citizens State Bank or the Hospice Brazos Valley.
