Doreen Elizabeth (Balke) Brown, 88, of Somerville passed away September 13, 2020 in Caldwell, Texas. A visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville.

Doreen was born March 24, 1932 to Christian Balke and Inez (Sears) Balke in Somerville, Texas. She married Luther Brown, Jr. on May 6, 1952 in Caldwell, Texas.
Doreen was the wife of an Army Soldier. The family traveled all over the world. Once she got back to Burleson County, she said she was home on this side of Davidson Creek. Doreen loved to hunt and she taught the whole family how to fish. She was a great cook and was known all over Somerville as Grannie to everyone.
Doreen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Luther and a brother, Billy Balke.
She is survived by her son, Robert E. Brown of Brenham, Texas; daughters, Mary A Eben of Somerville, Texas, Susan Gail Brown of Somerville, Texas, Carol Yvonne Gurthrie and husband Ricky of Buena Vista, Colorado; sister Gwen Schoppe of Somerville, Texas; sister-in-law, Joyce Balke of Hitchcock, Texas; grandchildren, Crystal & David Alvarado, Amber & Mitch Dreyer, Dustin Robert Brown, Brandon Wayne Brown and Casey Zehnder, Danielle Nicole Brown, Brittany Doreen Brown; great grandchildren, Carter Alvarado, Jordyn Branham, Jodi Makel Zehnder, Megan Elizabeth Brown, Brandon Wayne Brown, Jr., Liam Alexander Brown, McKinley Brown, Jaycee Jada-Nicole Fisher, Brendon Fisher, Ke’shun D’Marcus Harris, and Kamryn Nicole Harris.
