Doris Hovorak

June 8, 1929 — December 30, 2016

Funeral services for Doris A. Hovorak, 87, of Caldwell are set for 10 a.m., Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at the Caldwell Brethren Church, officiated by Pastor Vanessa Mitchell. Interment will follow at New Tabor Brethren Cemetery, near Caldwell. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, January 2, 2017 at Strickland Funeral Home stateroom in Caldwell. Mrs. Hovorak passed away on December 30, 2016 in Bryan, Texas.

Doris was born June 8, 1929 to Joe V. & Albina Sefcik in Burleson County, Texas. Doris married Raymond Joe Hovorak on August 12, 1950, and they resided in Cooks Point. Doris was a member of SPJST Lodge, the Brethren Church, the Czech Museum, and she held the office Corresponding Secretary in the Christian Sisters at Caldwell Brethren. She worked at Burleson County Tax Office, the County Clerks Office, the ASCS office in Caldwell, and Texas Engineering & Extension Service which she was at for 22 years before retirement in 1994.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Raymond; and son Randy Hovorak.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Joe & Sandra Hovorak of Caldwell; daughters and sons-in-law, Donna & Lee Martin of Anchorage, Alaska, Lisa & Glynn Wood of Rockdale, Sherry & Terry Helton of Austin, Texas; sister, Lillie Mae Wright of Marquez, Texas; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her two faithful pets/companions, Princess and Miya.

Active pallbearers will be Joe D. Smith, Pete Scarmardo, Milton Hodges, Lee Martin, Dennis Drgac, and Alan Wright. Honorary pallbearers are D.D. (Buddy) Lightsey, Ben F. Trcalek, Alfred Henicke, and David Dolliver.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice Brazos Valley, Bryan, Texas or Caldwell Brethren Church.
