Douglas Aaron Maddox, 95, of Caldwell passed away peacefully at his home with wife by his side on October 12, 2024.

He was born October 30, 1928, to parents Rosie Lee (Wine) Maddox and Willie W. Maddox in Burleson County where he grew up working on his grandfather’s farm. Later, after moving to Houston, he joined the Navy in 1946 and served honorably until 1953. He worked at several jobs until joining the Houston Police Department in 1956, retiring as a Sargeant in 1988. While working there, he met the love of his life, Marcia High.

Doug was a strong and determined man who never backed away from any challenge. He could figure out how to put anything together and was able to create beautiful things from scratch, including the home that he and Marcia shared for 30 years. He was a lover of all animals, especially dogs and cats and he rescued and cared for many dogs throughout his years. A motorcycle aficionado, he loved riding and went back and forth from his home in Texas to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally every year until the age of 90, even being a proud member of the Iron Butt Association. He loved to tell long and entertaining stories about his illustrious and eventful life, and he had a very funny and delightful sense of humor.

Doug and Marcia had 44, happy and fun filled years together traveling extensively throughout the United States in their camper and riding motorcycles. They also enjoyed scuba diving, fishing, water and snow skiing, and spent two winters in Mexico living in their camper. Settling in Caldwell, they purchased some acreage, cleared the property, and built their home themselves, moving into it in 1995. Here they tried their hand at raising goats, at one time having more than 100.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, J. W. Maddox. He is survived by his devoted and beloved wife, Marcia Maddox, first born adoring daughter Joyce Rogers (Hugh), Rhonda Losh, Jodie Baxter (Bill), and son Douglas Maddox, Jr. (Jenny); grandchildren Katrina and Will Rogers, Robert Hunter and Samantha Losh, Joshua and Jeremy Saulter, and Jessica , Brittany, and Aaron Maddox and numerous great grandchildren; his sisters-in-laws Carolyn Unruh (Ben) and Frances High, and his nephew Brad Maddox (Babette)
