Eldridge Townsend

Eldridge Townsend, of Somerville, passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2019 surrounded by his family.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 28 at Strickland Funeral Home from 1 pm – 3pm. Service will follow visitation with interment at Oaklawn Cemetery.

Eldridge was born on June 21, 1944 to Borden Townsend and Wylene (Bussey) Townsend. He was larger than life, loved The Crimson Tide (Alabama). He was a jokester, loud and full of life. He always wore his “White Holy t-shirts” while sitting on the porch with Doris watching the cows and drinking coffee. One of his favorite meals was cornbread and butter beans. He would always tell everyone he had the prettiest three girls in the world because they had the prettiest and smartest dad. He loved teasing and flirting with all the ladies he ever came in contact with, he never met a stranger. When the girls were younger, they enjoyed horses and barrel racing, and raising animals in FFA with their mom and dad.

Eldridge is survived by his wife, Doris Townsend; daughters, Cindy Pohlmeyer and husband Chris, Diane Jones and husband Gordon, Sheila Fowler and husband Alan; sisters, Norma Jean Williams, Pat Johnson; grandchildren, Brooke Rodriguez and husband Derek, Shelby Pohlmeyer, Cody Jones and wife Jesse, Carly Jones, Cylee Jones, Jake Fowler and wife Celia, Jordan Fox and husband Dustin, Jace Fowler; great-grandchildren, Linley Grace Jones, Matthew Alan Fowler and baby Jones, due in August, along with numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by both parents and brother-in-laws, Ted Williams and Rev. Wade Johnson.

Pallbearers are Alan Fowler, Jake Fowler, Jace Fowler, Gordon Jones, Cody Jones, Chris Pohlmeyer, Derek Rodriguez and Dustin Fox.
