Frank Balcar

Funeral services for Frank Henry Balcar, 94 of Dime Box, Texas are set for 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at the Dime Box Brethren Church, with Rev. Rhonda Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Hranice Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Monday, February 24, 2020 also at the church in Dime Box. Mr. Balcar passed away on February 22, 2020 in College Station, Texas.

Frank was born February 1, 1926 to Frank Balcar and Mary Teresa (Pecena) Balcar in Dime Box, Texas. He married Doris Zimmerman on October 13, 1947 in Caldwell, Texas.

Frank was an avid dancer and musician and played in multiple country & western bands over the years. He loved Polka Dance and music and enjoyed fishing and hunting with his grandsons. He was instrumental in the building of the Dime Box Brethren Church in 1955, of which he was a member. He was also the caretaker of the Dime Box Hranice Cemetery. He planted all of the Oak and Crepe Myrtle trees that are found on the property. He was a member of SPJST #13, VFW #4458, and the Dime Box Volunteer Fire Department. Frank was a WWII Veteran and very involved with the Veteran’s community and the construction of the VA Memorial at the cemetery. He would always make sure that there were flags on each of the veteran’s grave plots for all of the Military Holidays.

Frank is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Balcar; three sisters, Lydia Wolf, Malady Sample, Agnes Mazoch and one brother, Louis Balcar.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Doris Juanita (Zimmerman) Balcar of Dime Box; daughters and sons-in-law, Jean & Milbert Pokorney of Brownwood, Shirley & Ron Elliott of Port O’Connor; grandchildren, Trevor Pokorney and wife Suzanne, Reagan Pokorney and wife Stacey, Steven Elliott, Brian Elliott; great grandchildren, Jake Pokorney, Rachel Pokorney, Amy Symons, Noah Pokorney, Sarah Elliott; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Ed Kruppa, Gary Mazoch, Jake Pokorney, Dave Terrebonne, Nick Lombardo and Jack Beran. Trevor Pokorney, Reagan Pokorney, Steven Elliott and Brian Elliott will act as honorary pallbearers.
