Frank Connell

Frank A. Connell, 91, of Somerville, TX, passed away September 7, 2018, in Bryan, TX, surrounded by family. He was born June 23, 1927 in Brownwood, TX, a son of Cecil and Julia Pauline Melton Connell. On November 17, 1947 he was united in marriage to Mary Etta Sterling.

Frank attended and graduated from Brownwood public schools and later attended Blinn Jr. College, Howard Payne University and Dallas County Jr. College.

He was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad Company from August 16, 1943, working in Somerville, Brownwood, Temple & Garland. He was an agent in Garland, TX from 1961 until his retirement in 1988. In 1989, after 28 years in Garland, Frank moved back to Somerville.

During WWII, Frank proudly served in the U. S. Navy for approximately 2 years; specializing in communication at the Univ. of Wisconsin at Madison and acting as a communications operator aboard ship in the Pacific where he served until his discharge from the Navy.

Frank’s spiritual journey began on May 9, 1948 when he professed his faith and joined the First Baptist Church of Somerville. In 1958 he was ordained a Deacon in Brownwood. This journey came full circle when he returned to the church in Somerville and served as a Deacon.

Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, his parents, two brothers, and seven sisters. He is survived by daughter, Susan Connell Gray and husband Todd; sons, Robert Connell and Stephen Connell in addition to Steve’s wife Kathy, 2 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, September 13th at First Baptist Church, Somerville with graveside service immediately following at Oak Lawn Cemetery.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, September 12th, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Strickland’s Funeral Home, Somerville.
