Gail Elaine (Gerdes) Hardin, 83, of Deanville passed away December 18, 2019 in College Station. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Saturday, December 21, 2019 at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell. A private family service will be held on Sunday.
Gail was born on October 22, 1936 to Albert Gerdes and Ruby (Reichle) Gerdes in Deanville, Texas. Gail chose a marriage license over her high school diploma. This license lasted 64 years. She married Robert Hardin December 31, 1954 in LaMarque, Texas. She had two years at the College of the Mainland in Texas City and she held two Certificates of Completion in Early Child Development.
She was the director of Kids & Company Student Center in LaMarque, Texas for over 15 years. When they first moved to Deanville she was a volunteer driver for the Resource Center. After this she was a cashier with the Christians Care Store for 13 years, where she loved being available to help people. Gail was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where she spent many years providing meals and support to all.
She loved gardening, especially flowers, and was well known for her cooking of Dewberry Pie, Peach Cobbler, and Sausage Dressing during the Holiday Season. She was known as the “fun” parent; always driving the kids places.
Gail was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Guyle Dan Gerdes.
She is survived by her husband, Bob Hardin of Deanville; son, David Lee Hardin and wife Danni Kim of Deanville, Texas; daughter, Patricia Ann Brinkmann and husband Hubert, Jr. of Spring, Texas; brother, Garnett Gerdes and wife Mary Bess of Deanville, Texas; sister, Sandra Lee Leatherwood and husband Steve of Meridian, Texas; grandchild, Michael Joseph Brinkmann of Spring, Texas and numerous nieces, nephews and many other relatives, friends and church family.
To her family she was the psychiatrist, doctor, lawyer, banker, wife, mother and grandmother. She was loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. John’s Lutheran Church Bldg Fund.
