Anyone who met George Richard Shryock of Somerville, Texas, knew they were in the presence of a man who exemplified wisdom, love, patience, and an unyielding dedication to his family. George was the kind of person who could light up a room with his pride for his loved ones, never missing a chance to brag about their accomplishments. George had a knack for fixing things, and as the song says, “Folks drove the cars from miles around and let 'em look underneath the hood.”
George was a loving husband and a remarkable father, teaching his children not only how to navigate life’s challenges but how to live with integrity and joy. His family was the center of his world, and his love for them never wavered. George’s presence was a steady light, and though that light has gone to be with his Heavenly Father, its glow remains in the hearts of everyone who knew him. In one of his final moments, he woke to Merle Haggard’s "Are the Good Times Really Over," a fitting reflection of his love for life’s honest, timeless truths. George’s legacy of unconditional love and quiet strength will live on in those who were blessed to share in his life.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Sue Shryock; children, Deerik (Gwen) Shryock, Jason (Kristi) Shryock, and Jessica (Jason) Evetts; grandchildren (Brett, Marisa, Richard, and Eastyn); and great-grandchildren (Wyatt, Oakley, and Raelynn). He is now reunited with those he loved who went before him, including Betty Sue Shryock and his daughter, Darla Schulz, and grandson, Jett Shryock.
