George was born February 3, 1935 to Alfred Wood and Lela Mae (Weber) Wood in Leesville, Texas. He married Lennie Pearl Hopkins on July 2, 1954 in Missouri City, Texas.

George Wood had a passion for life that he passed on to all who had the good fortune to know him. The majority of George’s career began in the oilfield at an early age of 18. He held many positions and did not completely give up his career until the age of 81. George’s biggest passion was calf roping. He spent most evenings and weekends in the arena and had a wealth of unwritten knowledge he shared through his mentoring of many cowboys and cowgirls. He loved helping anyone that was interested in learning. When he wasn’t in the roping pen you could find him spending time with family making countless memories filling weekends with barbecues and swimming. George loved and was devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren. He made sure they were provided for, protected and loved in every possible way. He was the caretaker of them all.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Raymond, Joe and Tillman Wood; sister, Gwenda Belvin, Virginia Hackett; grandson, Casey Don Wood; and great granddaughter, Everly Pearl Wood.

George is survived by his wife of 63 years, Pearl Wood of Caldwell; son and daughter-in-law, Richard & Dana Wood of Caldwell; daughters and sons-in-law, Rita & Chuck Hairston of Franklin, Pam & Eric Payonk of Caldwell; brother and sister-in-law, Wilbur & Gladys Wood of Fentress; sister and brother-in-law, Linda & Art Weisenberger of Harwood; sisters-in-law, Janet Wood of Luling, Jeanette Wood of Luling, Nancy Wood of Rockdale; grandchildren, Cody Wood, Calli Wood, Cade Wood, Brandie LeCheminant, Lindsay Johnson, Matthew Ofczarzak, Scott Ofczarzak, Jake Payonk; great grandchildren, Emma Ofczarzak, Spur Sloan, Logan Johnson, Chase Johnson, Cash Johnson, Madyson Johnson, Caleb Gardner, Colby Gardner, Sarah, Emma, Daniel and John LeCheminant.
