Gwendolyn Schoppe

Gwendolyn Schoppe, of Somerville, TX Went to her heavenly home Monday, March 29th, at the age of 87. Visitation is set for Tuesday, March 30, 2021 from 6-8 p.m. at Strickland Funeral Home of Somerville. Graveside service is set for 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at Oaklawn Cemetery in Somerville with Brother Corby Brizendine officiating.

Gwen was born October 20, 1933 in Somerville, Texas to parents Chris Balke and Inez (Sears) Balke.

Gwendolyn loved to fish, decorate cakes, listening to Elvis Presly, watching college football and cooking Sunday dinner for the whole family to sit down. She enjoyed sitting on the porch to watch nature happening. She was an avid reader of mystery and romance novels. Gwendolyn was married the love of her life L. D. Schoppe September 22, 1954 and graduated Somervile High School class of 1951.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Chris and Inez Balke; husband, L.D. Schoppe; infant son, Darrell Lee Schoppe; sister, Doreen Brown, and brother, Billy Balke.

She is survived by her son, Leslie Schoppe of Somerville, TX.,  daughters Vickey Webb of Somerville, TX., Mary and husband Davey Meschwitz of Brenham, TX.,;  by 5 grandchildren; Christopher Webb, Jennifer Schoenberg, Jason Webb, D.J. Meschwitz, and  Amber Madden; and 8 great-grandchildren.
