Hilda Loehr Weeber

On January 10, 2025, Hilda Ruth (Loehr) Weeber, 96, of Caldwell, peacefully went to be with her Lord at home surrounded by her family. Hilda was born December 10, 1928, in the Providence area of Burleson County. She was a loving wife, mother, memaw, sister, aunt, and friend.

She was baptized in 1929 in the Cooks Point Methodist Church and in 1945 was confirmed and joined the church. She has been a lifetime member and served faithfully ever since.

Hilda attended Union School, Cooks Point School and completed her education at Caldwell High School where she graduated 2nd in her class. She met her husband of 56 years, Oscar Edward Weeber, in the Cooks Point community. They married in 1948 in the Cooks Point Methodist Church and established their home in the Rita community where they farmed; raised chickens, turkeys, hogs, and cattle; and started their family. Ten years later, they opened Rita Grocery and Feed Store and then expanded their business in Caldwell under the name Loehr and Weeber Feed Store. In 1968, they moved to Caldwell where they built their current home and where Hilda resided until her passing.  

Her love for God, family, and friends has always been a priority in her life and was evident with her many acts of service and kindness throughout the years. Hilda served as communion steward at Cooks Point Methodist Church for over 30 years. Adults and children alike have fond memories of the homemade bread she would bake for communion, the Christmas bags she would make to give to the children after the church’s Christmas program, and how she made sure the Fellowship Center was always fully supplied. She also served on several church committees including the Program Committee, the Memorial Committee, and the Cemetery Committee. She had a passion for volunteering in her community with her 25 years of service to the Caldwell Christians Care store and her many visits to the nursing home to share her homemade cookies with the residents. 

Her hobbies included growing an abundant vegetable garden, creating immaculate flower beds, and maintaining a well-groomed yard – all of which she did through her early 90s. She was an amazing seamstress and enjoyed sewing her daughter’s Easter dresses, clothes for school and special events, costumes, bridesmaid dresses and even a wedding dress and veil. Later she sewed clothes for her granddaughters. Hilda also loved feeding the birds and watching them through her windows. She was an amazing cook and loved preparing food for anyone no matter the time of day. Hilda’s selflessness allowed her to put others first and she had a way of making everyone feel welcome.

Hilda is survived by her children: Keith Weeber, Sandra Gilland, Connie (Mark) Valigura of Caldwell, and Bonnie (Jim) Smith of Richmond. She’s also survived by three sisters-in-law: Irene Perry and Erna Beran of Caldwell and Glennie Weeber of Sealy. She has been blessed with four grandchildren: Kevin Smith of Richmond, Chanae Kling of College Station, Kaylee (LB) Vavra, and Charee (Timmy) Moore all of Caldwell, and one step-granddaughter, Kendall Holub of Denver. Survivors also include her beloved great-grandchildren: Kyndall Rollins of Richardson, Kade Smith of Richmond, Brooks and Beckett Moore, and Paige and Reagan Vavra all of Caldwell. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and dear friends that will miss her greatly.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Oscar; parents Willie and Alma Loehr; brothers and sisters William, Elsie, and Andrew Loehr, Ruby Steck, Gertrude Spittler, Carrie Bridges, and Raymond and Franklin Loehr; nephew Gerald Loehr; niece Beverly (Steck) Barfield; and numerous sisters and brothers in law.

Serving as pallbearers are Kevin Smith, Timmy Moore, LB Vavra, Douglas Telg, Blifford Loehr, Allen Steck, Randy Spittler, and Dennis Spittler. Honorary pallbearers are Billie Joe Spittler, Danny Loehr, Michael Loehr, Chanae Kling, Charee Moore, Kaylee Vavra, Kendall Holub, Joe Rychlik, John Hoffman, and Larry Hein.

We would like to extend our appreciation to her caregivers Marie Shivers, Yolanda Wright, Quindesha Brown, Meka Stringfellow, and Doris Broaddus for the compassionate care and support they provided. Their dependability and experience enabled us to honor her wishes to remain in her home. The comfort and peace of mind this gave us was a true blessing.
