Hulene Kretzer

Services for Hulene Henryetta Marie (Heldmann) Kretzer, 85, of Caldwell are set for 11 a.m., Friday, August 5, 2016 at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell, with Rev. Jeff Lightsey officiating. Interment will follow at the Elizabeth Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, August 4, 2016 also at the funeral home. Mrs. Kretzer passed away on July 31, 2016 in Caldwell, Texas.

Hulene was born September 29, 1930 to Edmund Heldmann and Ella (Lehde) Heldmann in Caldwell, Texas. She married Charles John Kretzer on December 9, 1961 in Caldwell, Texas.

She graduated Caldwell High School in 1950 and immediately started working at the Savage Dentistry office in Caldwell as a hygienist. As a reward for her impressive work ethic, Dr. Savage persuaded her to go to Blinn College in order to receive a certificate in bookkeeping, which enabled her to go on to become the first female employee at Caldwell National Bank, where she remained for 35 years. Hulene was a member of the Elizabeth Lutheran Church where she was very active in church and choir activities there as well as Cooks Point Methodist Church. She was the president of the FFA Booster Club. She was a founder and an integral part of the class of the 50's reunions. She enjoyed fishing, gardening and basketball.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Hulene is survived by son, Richard Kretzer of Caldwell; brother and sister-in-law, Darwood & Jo Heldmann of Magnolia; sister-in-law Billie Lauderdale of Caldwell; brother and sister-in-law Bernard & Joy Kretzer of Caldwell; nephews, Kenneth & Emily Lauderdale, of Caldwell, James & Teri Lauderdale of Desoto, and niece Darla Dennis of Terrell.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Lauderdale, Kenneth Lauderdale, Brian Lauderdale Brad Lauderdale, Gary Heldmann, and Barney Homeyer. Honorary pallbearers will be Carolyn Brinkman, Debra Skrabanek, Danise Johnson, and Beverly Broaddus, her co-workers from the bank.
