James Davis

Services for James Garrett Davis, 96, of Somerville are set for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 19, 2019 at the Community Chapel in Lyons, with Pastor Joel Lamb officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, October 18, 2019 at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville.

James was born February 1, 1923 to Macklin Hobs Davis, Sr. and Beulah Ada (Honeycutt) Davis in Marlin, Texas.

James married Cora Jane Thrash on January 9, 1949 in Marlin, Texas.

James served in the U.S. Navy in World War II as a pilot and continued on as a civil servant at the Naval Air Base in Corpus Christi for 33 years. He was a loving husband, a great father, a strong leader and most of all a devout Christian.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Macklin and Beulah Davis; wife, Jane Davis; daughter, DiAnn Lueck; sisters, Sybil Sudberry and Jo Broadus; and brother, Macklin Davis, Jr.

James leaves behind sons, Jim Davis, Jr., of Kelseyville, California, David B. and Teresa Davis of Somerville, Danny M. Davis of Somerville; son-in-law, Donnie Lueck of Somerville; grandchildren, Stephen Davis, Garrett Lueck, Erin Herrick, David Clarke, Daniel Clarke, Danny Davis Jr. and Joseph Davis; great grandchildren, Pierce Davis, Holli Herrick, Michael Herrick, Sarah Clarke, Ben Clarke, and Sophia Clarke.

Pallbearers are Stephen Davis, Garrett Lueck, Michael Herrick, Jr., Joseph Cowden, David Clarke, and Curtis Kersh.
