Jennings H. Hill Jr., 84 of Somerville, Tx. passed away Saturday, September 28, 2024, in Caldwell, Tx. A celebration of his life will be held, Friday October 4, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Somerville, TX. Brother Corby Brizendine will be officiating, the burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery in Somerville. The Family will receive guests Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Born on July 5, 1940, in Somerville, Tx, he was the son of the late Jennings H. Hill Sr. and Iva Virginia Welch Hill.
He graduated in 1958 from Somerville I.S.D. and then attended Texas A&M University on a band scholarship and participated in R.O.T.C. Later he transferred to Sam Houston State University and graduated in 1962. He served in the National Guard for several years.
He later went to work for Charter Oil in Houston, Tx, retiring in 1985 and returned to live in Somerville.
He enjoyed singing it the church choir, was a sports enthusiast, an avid reader, and had a love of history. Most of all he loved his church and his church family, where he served as the church clerk, church historian, and was a Sunday school for several decades.
Jennings was proceeded in death by his parents Jennings H. Hill Sr and Iva Virginia Welch Hill and his brother Kevin Hill.
He is survived by his sister Karen Floyd, her husband Craig Floyd and sister-in-law Mary Neinast Hill.
