Jimmy Lucille Dixon went home to be with the Lord on September 16, 2024 at home in Henderson, Nevada. Jimmy was born on December 28, 1929 in San Antonio, Texas. She was 94 years of age.
Jimmy became a Christian on October 30, 1938 in her home town of Somerville, Texas. She was actively involved in teaching Sunday School and Girls Auxiliary as well as participating in Intercessory Prayer, Seekers Class, Women’s Ministry, and Meals on Wheels . In Henderson, Nevada she was involved with Women’s Ministry and bi-weekly calls to every family of The Fellowship at McDonald Ranch.
Jimmy married Marvin Claude Dixon on August 27, 1950. Two children were added to this marriage- Paul Edward Dixon and Claudia Lucille Dixon.
She received her BA from Southwest Texas State University in 1950 and her MA from Texas A&M University in 1967.
Jimmy was employed with the LaGrange Independent School District where she taught typing, shorthand and bookkeeping from 1954-1959.
The family moved to Bryan, Texas in 1960. From 1960 to 1990 Jimmy was employed with the Bryan Independent School District where she taught fourth grade, was a school counselor in several of the Bryan elementary schools and was a counselor at Bryan High School for thirteen years.
While employed in Bryan, Jimmy belonged to several professional organizations- TSTA (Life Member), ATPE, Bryan Education Association and Brazos Valley Counselor’s Association (President and Secretary). Jimmy was a proud member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. She served as President and Treasurer of the Alpha Xi Chapter.
She was a Licensed Professional Counselor and was appointed by the Governor of Texas to the Professional Practices Commission. She served from 1976-1979.
Jimmy was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Marvin Dixon; her parents John and Henreitta Beaird and by Marvin’s parents, Claude and Carrie Dixon.
Jimmy is survived by her son and daughter in law, Paul Edward Dixon and Gwendolyn Maresh Dixon of Minerva, Texas; daughter and son in law Claudia Lucille Dixon Mann and Rev. David Pat Mann of Henderson, Nevada; granddaughters Maresha Leigh Dixon Zazueta and husband Gabe of Houston, Texas; Rozalyn Renee Dixon Stuckey and husband Michael of Houston, Texas; and Sara Elizabeth Mann DeMartino and husband Dr. Robert of Henderson, Nevada.
Jimmy is also survived by seven great grandchildren. They are: Caroline Grace Zazueta, Jacob Paul Zazueta, Jack Edward Stuckey and Luke Michael Stuckey of Houston, Texas. Three of her great grandchildren live in Henderson, Nevada: Robert John DeMartino, Adriana Elvira DeMartino, and Matthew David DeMartino.
Celebration of Life Services will be held in both Somerville, Texas and in Henderson, Nevada.
In Somerville, a time of visitation will be held at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville, Texas on September 25, 2024 from 5-7 PM. A graveside memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM at Oaklawn Cemetery on the outskirts of Somerville, Texas. In Henderson, Nevada, a memorial service will be held at Green Valley Baptist Church on October 12, 2024 at 1 PM. A reception will be held immediately after the service.
