John Lumpkin

Services for John Kirby Lumpkin, 79, of Caldwell are set for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 12, 2020 at Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Caldwell. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Somerville. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell. Mr. Lumpkin passed away March 5, 2020 at his home in Caldwell.

John was born January 20, 1941 to Claude Lumpkin and Margaret(Mullins) Lumpkin in Lufkin, Texas.

John was a very successful businessman in the community. He was instrumental in the maintenance of the large equipment that was utilized in the construction and digging of Lake Somerville. He worked for Mustang Caterpillar, Wilson Industries and Aurora Pump Company. At this point he decided to start his own company. He was CEO and operator of Associated Fluid Products in Houston, Texas. Many years later he sold his company and went to work for Teikoku, and Nikkiso in sales and service before retiring at age 73.

John loved hunting and fishing, especially dove hunting in October. He was an avid reader, enjoyed watching western movies, 4-wheeling, driving his tractor and working his ranch. His true passion was being outdoors with nature. He knew the names of all the plants, and trees that could be found. John liked a good game of Solitaire and a good cup of coffee in the morning watching the sunrise. G-Dad as he was called by the great grandchildren, will miss him dearly as will all his family and friends who mourn his passing.

John was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Gayle Sharp.

He is survived by his wife, June Marie (Birkman) Lumpkin of Caldwell; son, John Keith Lumpkin of Caldwell; daughters and son-in-law, Katherine & James Hidler of Magnolia, Karen Lumpkin Ballentine of Magnolia, Kim Lumpkin of Spring; grandchildren, Kristen Orostieta and husband Luis, Kori Free, Courtney Lumpkin, Keri Ann Sparks and husband Terry, James Garrett Hidler, Lauren Hidler, Zachary Moreman; great grandchildren, Cameron and Andres Orostieta, Boe Free, Brylee, Brynlee, and Emmie Sparks; a brother Colonel Peyton Lumpkin and wife Jeanenne of Katy and their children also by numerous cousins, and other family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Luis Orostieta, Terry Sparks, Cameron Orostieta, James Garrett Hidler, Jerry Zamarron, Roberto Capistran, Boe Free, and James Free.
