Johnny Kovar

Johnny C. Kovar passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 21, 2022, surrounded by his family at the family farm, where he was born and raised.

Johnny was born on March 15, 1936, to John J. Jr. and Liddie (Kristof) Kovar in the Deanville community.

He married Doris Ann (Heine) Kovar on May 4, 1963, and they were blessed with one daughter, Marsha Ann (Kovar) McCuller.

After graduating from Caldwell High School in 1953, Johnny worked at International Furniture and started his own shop doing upholstery for many others in the community.  He served in the Army Reserve.  Johnny was then offered a job at the City of Caldwell. He went to Conley Tech and became licensed as the Water-Sewer Superintendent for the City of Caldwell, where he retired in 1999 after 33 years of dedicated service, but he continued doing water inspections until recently.  Johnny was a faithful member of Lyons Evangelical Church for many years serving multiple terms as a council member and was always willing to volunteer where needed.  Later found a home at the Burleson County Cowboy Church.

On, July 7, 2003, he married Rita (O’Mary) Kovar and chose to father two more daughters to become one family.  They enjoyed traveling, dancing, and spending time with friends and family.

Johnny also took pride in helping others.  He worked on the family farm, ranching and gardening, for many years.  He enjoyed playing dominoes, hunting, and fishing. Johnny was a man of few words, but he was a great listener and cared for his family.  He wore the most contagious and beautiful smile that will be cherished forever.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Doris Ann Kovar, his brother, Charlie J. Kovar, granddaughter Catherine Mroz, and great granddaughter, Winslon Monk.

He is survived by his wife, Rita Kovar, and daughters, Marsha (Kovar) McCuller and husband, Cameron, of Caldwell, Wendy Ruiz and husband, Bert, of Houston, and Amy Weir and husband, Brad, of Temple.  His grandchildren are Macey and Cobey McCuller, Tyler and Katie Coats, Kristan Monk and husband, Cody, and Colyn Mroz, and great-grandchildren:  Elgin, Aislin, and Benson Monk and Beau Mroz.
