Kathryn Like

Kathryn Like, 91, of Somerville gained her wings on February 6.

Visitation for Kathryn will start Friday, February 9, 5 pm - 8 pm at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville. Services will be at First United Methodist Church in Somerville on Saturday, February 10 at 11am.

Kathryn, lovingly known as Mimi, was born to Doris and John L. Schluens on August 24, 1926 at home in Somerville. She graduated Somerville High School and then attended business classes in Galveston. She married the love of her life, Grady Like, and had three beautiful girls. They enjoyed many great trips together. During her working career she dedicated her time to helping others, whether it was at Doc Pazdral’s, the Brenham State School, Somerville High School or Strickland Funeral Home. She was a people person who did all she could for anyone in need. Some of her favorite times were spent with kids and grandkids. There were sporting events, band concerts and many hours spent outside enjoying nature. Mimi was one of a kind and will truly be missed by family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Doris Schluens; husband, William Grady Like; daughter, Kathy Brinkman; son-in-law, Stanley Brinkman; granddaughter, Johanna Brinkman; big brother, John Leroy “Pete” Schluens, Jr. and little sister, Lottie Sue “Baby” Lewis.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughters, P.K. Like, Maxine Like; grandchildren, Cecily and husband Joshua Young, Tristan Like, Joseph Black; great-grandchildren, Jayden Young, Noelle Young; little brother, Claude Schluens and wife Mary, little sister, Linda and husband Jimmy Oppermann; best-friend, Martha Hertenberger; honorary daughter and care taker, Niecy Young; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Tristan Like, Joseph Black, Joshua Young, Levar Mayberry, Jay Oppermann and Kyle Maldonado.

Honorary pallbearers are Jayden Young, Frank Brock and Tommy Dyer.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Outreach Community Garden Fund.
