Laverne Chollett

LaVerne (Hein) Chollett, 87, passed away on June 11, 2022 after battling health complications. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm  on Friday, June 17. Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday June 18; both will be at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville, TX. Following the services, LaVerne will be laid to rest at Oaklawn Cemetery, also in Somerville.

LaVerne was born on November 28, 1934, to parents Hugo Hein Sr and Nora Mae (Corley) Hein. She grew up in a large family with eleven children. She attended High Prairie School, Somerville High School, and the University of Houston.  LaVerne was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. for over 35 years. LaVerne was blessed with a son and a daughter who she loved deeply, L.H. and Linda Kay.

LaVerne retired in 1994 and returned to Somerville where she enjoyed life in the country with her pets. She always looked forward to visits from her grandkids. She was a longtime member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, and the American Business Women’s Association.

LaVerne is preceded in death by her daughter Linda, her parents, sisters Dorothy McManners, Virginia Asselin, brothers Henry Hein and Tilman Hein, brothers-in-law Arthur McManners Sr, Billy Balke, Jack Isom, nephews Jimmy Lynn Balke, Arthur Nolan McManners, and great nephew Aaron Sivils.

She is survived by son L.H. Chollet and wife Debra; grandchildren Michael, James, and Andrew Leatherwood, Louis and William Darling, Nickolaus, Christopher, Jason, and Kathryn Funkhouser; great-grandchildren Nickoli Leatherwood, Andi and Danielle Allison, Alana Hall, Myah, Quinn, Faith, Grace, Mercy, and Stella Chollett, Roland and Gemma Funkhouser; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
