Lina Jacqueline Tani Murray passed away on October 25, 2022 at age 98. She was born in Florence, Italy on September 16, 1924. Her parents were French citizens, Yves Tani and Ersula Richolet. She did not have any siblings.
Lina grew up Oran, Algeria where her father owned a large construction company. Her advanced education at the University of Algiers was interrupted by the German occupation during World War II. She met her future husband, E.W. Murrray, when the American forces liberated Algeria. After the war ended, Lina and E.W. were married. They were together for 54 years until E.W.’s death in 2001. One daughter, Dr. Yvette Murray, currently resides in Austin, Texas.
In addition to serving as the Lyons Postmaster for over three decades, Lina was very active in her community. She had been a member of the Water Supply Corporation Board of Directors, and for many years, she was the treasurer of the Lyons Extension Club. Lina was also a founding member of the Lyons Community Center.
Graveside services will be at the Oaklawn Cemetery at 2:00 pm on Sunday, October 30th. In lieu of flowers, Lina may be remembered with donations to the Lyons Extension Club and the First United Methodist Church of Somerville.
