Linda Oppermann

b. September 24, 1941

Somerville

Linda Faye Oppermann was called to her heavenly home on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, with the ones she cherished and adored the most by her side at home. She was 79 years young.

Linda was born on September 24, 1941, to John Leroy and Doris Alan Schulens in Somerville, TX. She graduated from Somerville High School in 1959, where she was a stand out basketball player and was voted most athletic during her senior year by her peers. Linda also attended Blinn College in Brenham, TX. She married the love of her life on August 24, 1961 to Jimmy Harold Oppermann Sr. in Somerville, TX and have been inseparable since. Shortly after marriage, she became a dedicated mother to two loving children that she cherished and embraced every moment with. She retired as a bookkeeper for Dr. George Parzdral in Somerville, TX and would continue to work for the Parzdral’s after retirement. She also enjoyed volunteering as a poll worker during elections. Linda ranched with her husband during their entire marriage, which was what she truly loved. You could always find her out on the ranch, riding her horse, working cows, feeding her goats and wrangling chickens. There was never a job too large or too small that she would not tackle. Linda was strong, determined, generous and a giving individual, who always rose to the occasion to provide whatever was needed or asked of her.

Later in life, Linda would be blessed again with two grandchildren and later two great grandchildren, whom she adored dearly and became known as Granny. She loved her role as Granny and enjoyed watching her grandchildren in all that they participated. She was simply their number 1 fan and supporter which she didn’t miss a minute or play. During her down time, she had a vast love for reading, teaching her grandchildren, playing along with any type of game show, mainly “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy”. She was also an avid player of the Texas Lottery and in the fall, she passionately watched Aggie, Texans and Cowboy football games. During the day if you wanted to find Linda, you would have to look and listen for her gator. She was always on the go, out roaming the pastures making sure everything was running smoothly.

She is preceded in death by her parents John and Doris Schulens, brother John “Pete” Schulens Jr., two sisters Sarah Kathryn Like and Lottie Sue Lewis and nephew John Edward Lewis.

She is survived by her husband Jimmy Harold Oppermann Sr., brother Claude Edward Schulens, daughter and son-in-law Cynthia Ann and Frank Maldonado Jr., son and daughter-in-law Jimmy Harold and Janet Oppermann Jr., grandson Kyle Holden and Megan Maldonado, two granddaughters Morgan LeAnn and Shandala Maldonado, great-grandchildren Sage Amelia and Rowan Faye Maldonado all of Somerville, TX and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Hospice Brazos Valley. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice Brazos Valley in Linda’s name.
