Macy Dennis

April 10, 1940 — October 14, 2017

Macy Stewart Dennis, 77, of Lafayette, Louisiana passed on Saturday, October 14. Services are set for 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 19, 2017 from First Lutheran Church in Somerville. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville.

Macy had a friendly spirit that would light up a room when he entered. He used those skills the most when he was a greeter at church to make everyone feel welcome.

Macy married the love of his life on July 7, 1979 at Asbury Methodist Church in Lafayette.

Macy also loved to fish and hunt. Another favorite pastime outside was flying giant scale radio control planes he built or enjoying a good round of golf. One of his favorite pastimes was watching college football, especially University of Louisiana at Lafayette and Louisiana State University. He also loved to dance. He enjoyed working with plants and could handle any home projects.

Macy belonged to the LAPL, AAPL, First Baptist Church of Lafayette Choir, Friends of Faith Sunday School couples class and was also a Gideon.

Macy was a Petroleum Landman, worked for oil companies and also independently. The last 15 years he worked as land manager for the State of Louisiana, Department of Natural Resources in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Wilhelm Dennis of Lafayette, Louisiana; son, David Dennis of Lafayette; Daughters, Anne Dennis Mouton and husband Stephan of Midland, Texas, Mary Dennis Miller of Lafayette; brother, Howell Dennis, Jr. of Lafayette; grandchildren, Andrew Macy Mouton, Parker Stephen Mouton, Emma Kathryn Mouton, Claire Elizabeth Miller; nephew, Howell Dennis III of Lafayette and niece, Barbara Dennis Outland of Rich Square, North Carolina.

He is preceded in death by his father, Howell Arlistus Dennis; mother, Mary Stewart Dennis and sister-in-law, Kathryn Stokes Dennis.

Pallbearers are Wayne Wilhelm, Howell Dennis, III, David Dennis, Stephan Mouton, Andrew Mouton and Parker Mouton.

Memorials may be made to The First Baptist Church of Lafayette, Louisiana or First Lutheran Church of Somerville, Texas.
