Marjorie Duewall

Services for Bess Duewall, 95, of are set for 10:00 a.m., April 18, 2017 at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell. Visitation will be 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., Monday, April 17, 2017 also at the funeral home. Mrs. Duewall passed away in Bryan, Texas on April 16, 2017.

MarJorie Elizabeth (Bess) Duewall was born in Tanglewood, Texas on August 23, 1921. She graduated from Caldwell High School in 1940. She married Bruno. B. Duewall on February 3, 1942, they celebrated their sixtieth anniversary before his death in 2002.

She worked as a seamstress and was known for making beautiful dresses, formal gowns, wedding gowns and costumes. She later worked in health care for Dr. John Pravel, Dr. Joe Smith, Dr. Glenn Cochran, and Dr. Barker Stigler, where she made many lifelong friends.

After her retirement she took care of her husband and made beautiful quilts. She belonged to three quilting guilds and her “Killer Bees” circle. Each of her family members has one of her quilts made especially for him or her. She also spent many happy hours with her friend from childhood Eloise Philp. They had a special reserved table at the Surrey Inn where they visited with Rob Sneider and everyone who came in for lunch every day.

She was known for her Italian Crème Cake donation to the Caldwell Fire Department’s annual fund raiser. These special friends honored her on her 95th birthday with a dinner and birthday cake at Copperas Hollow Assisted Living.

She was preceded in death by her parents J.L. and Marjorie Pounder (Pappy and Sassy); her son, Marshall in 1973; brothers Don and Jerry Pounder; her sister Sue Brewer; and daughter-in-law Mary Lynn Duewall.

She is survived by her son Ed Duewall, her daughter Carole Urbanosky and her husband Dennis., Also, surviving are her beloved grandchildren, Carl Duewall and wife Christa, Steven Duewall, Mary DuBois and husband Steven, Marcia Schmitt and husband Mike, Greg Duewall and wife Sarah, and Chris Duewall and wife Kathy. Her great grandchildren are Ben, Lee, Justin, Joshua, Clint, Matt, Cody, and Grace Duewall, and Ross DuBois.

The family requests that memorial be given to Hospice Brazos Valley or the charity of your choice.
