Michael "Mike" Kubena

July 22, 1957 — February 24, 2023

Caldwell, TX

Michael “Mike” Eugene Kubena was born in Houston, Texas to Eugene and Mary Prazak Kubena on July 22, 1957. He left this world suddenly and unexpectedly on February 24, 2023, at the age of 65, as a result of going into cardiac arrest. Mike was a loving Father, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle, Cousin and Friend.

While growing up on his family’s farm, he learned the value of hard work during his childhood. He took great interest in raising cattle alongside his Dad, which resulted in this becoming a life passion of his. His love for his cattle shined through in his daily routine. More often than not, you would find him riding around the property on his side-by-side checking on his cattle.

While his love for raising cattle was strong, he was also a very talented welder. During his early years he became very passionate about the art of welding. He would spend hours upon hours welding and perfecting his skill. He was always willing to teach anyone that wanted to learn, including his son and grandsons.

Mike was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed everything about the outdoors from ranching to hunting and fishing. During hunting season, you knew not to call during “hunting hours” because you knew you would get his voicemail. He had a love for taking his grandsons, niece or anyone that was interested out hunting with him. During the warmer days, you could find him out by the pond fishing with family. Mike lived for family time. He loved being surrounded by family and friends enjoying the things that he enjoyed.

Mike also enjoyed spending time cooking, creating tasty meals for his family and friends. You could always count on him cooking a complete meal and making sure there was more than plenty to eat.

Most recently Mike found his talent in woodworking, from building his great nieces rocking chairs and a picnic table to building furniture pieces for his house. This was one of his many talents and you never knew what creation was coming next.

Mike had a loving heart. As feisty, and at times tenacious as he was, he was always ready to lend a helping hand. He loved when family or friends came over to visit and congregate out at the “shop” telling stories.

He put many miles on his side- by- side, driving around the pasture to check on his cattle and out feeding his fish daily. He spent numerous days in his shop canning, perfecting seasonings, cutting up meat or making sausage. He always kept himself busy. He took pride in all of his accomplishments around the property. Numerous memories were created that will be cherished for many, many years to come.

Mike was preceded in death by his father and mother, Eugene and Mary Kubena, his uncle Albert Jiral and aunt, Justine Jiral. He is survived by his daughter, Kara Guerrero and spouse Charles, and son, Trevor Kubena and spouse Brittney, his two grandchildren, Clayton and Hagen Hughes, his brother, Archie Kubena, sister, Judy Mittelstaedt and spouse Randy, his niece Meagan Fitzpatrick and spouse Keith, two great nieces Adalyn and Maci Fitzpatrick, his close cousin Glenn Jiral and spouse, Arianne, and their daughter Emily, as well as numerous friends.
