Nancy was born on August 14, 1951 in Bryan, Texas. She received a bachelors degree in Science in Micro-Biology from the University of Houston. Nancy was the Senior Instrument Specialist for Harris County Pollution Control. She began her work when water in the Houston Ship Channel was flammable and toxic to 100% of all marine life. At the end of decades of environmental work, water in the channel was supporting marine life and became a habitat for dolphins and all native species.

Nancy was extraordinarily stubborn and extremely intelligent. In modern terms, she would be described as a hi-tech geek with a passion for the environment. Nancy had no patience for the stupidity of allowing harm to come to animals by direct cruelty, or the industrial contamination common to Houston in the 1960’s. As a pioneer in women’s rights, she held a profession that was closed to most women of her day. After retirement, she continued to consult with the department to provide an orderly transition for others that followed her in the field of environmental protection.

Diagnosed in 2015 with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, she volunteered for courses of experimental pharmacology for the last 3 years.

She is preceded in death by her father, Fred Henry Junek, Sr., of Snook Texas.

Survivors include her mother, Willie Faye Junek; sister Mary Junek of Clear Lake, brother, Fred Henry Junek, Jr., of Hempstead, brother Tim Junek and wife Jill of Hempstead, and numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, and cousins.
