Paul Edward Schoppe

February 11, 1954 — December 1, 2024

Somerville

Paul Edward Schoppe went home to his heavenly family early on the morning of December 1, 2024. A beloved husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Paul passed peacefully at home with family by his side.

A visitation will be from 4-6pm, rosary begins at 6pm on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell. Paul’s Mass of Christian burial will be on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 10:30am at the Holy Rosary Catholic church in Frenstat. Interment will follow the service at the church cemetery in Frenstat.

Born in Bryan, Texas on February 11, 1954, Paul graduated from Somerville High School in 1973 and moved to the Gulf Coast shortly after, where he raised his family in Lake Jackson. During his time on the Texas Coast, Paul served as a Sergeant for the Freeport Police Department for several years before settling in as a Plant Supervisor at Shintech. After living in Louisiana for a time, Paul and his dear wife Karen moved back to Texas, eventually settling at the family farm in Somerville.

Paul was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting. He shot many trophy deer and spent time teaching his daughters, nieces, and nephews about the outdoors. Paul also loved football and spent many afternoons watching the Aggies or Tigers play, making calls and questioning coaching decisions with the best of them. A quiet man with a strong laugh, Paul got a kick out of the small things in life. Whether he was “accidentally” oiling his brother’s BB gun with motor oil as a kid, walking his daughters around Disney World, or manning the grill and crawfish pot at family functions, Paul went through life with a twinkle in his eye. He always stopped and noticed the joy around him, and he made time and space for anyone who needed it.

Paul is preceded in death by his loving parents, Alca and RJ Schoppe, and his much-missed brother, Joe, who were there to welcome him with open arms into Heaven. Survivors include wife Karen of Somerville; daughter and son-in-law Christi and Charles Chambers of Kingsport, TN; daughter and son-in-law Stephanie and JD Green of Danbury, daughter Meredith Serna of Memphis, TN; son Bailey Gibson of Memphis, TN; daughter Kitty Gibson or Greenville, SC; brother and sister-in-law Ray and Marian Schoppe of College Station; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
