Mrs. Renshaw passed from this world November 1, 2019 in Grand Prairie, Texas surrounded by her family.
Rosa was born September 6, 1931 to Felipe Garcia Martinez and Maria Alvarez Garcia in Concepcion de Buenos Aires, Jalisco, Mexico, a small rural village located on the Pacific coast of Mexico. She was one of nine children. Her parents were farmers and timber harvesters.
At the tender age of 17, little did she know she was about to embark on the journey of her lifetime. After finishing secondary school in her village, she moved into her cousin’s home in the city of Acuña and began work as a waitress in a restaurant. She met her future husband, James Kenneth Renshaw, in this eatery and the two love birds immediately fell in love. After a short courtship, they married in 1949 in Mexico and then set up housekeeping in Pecos, TX. Rosa worked as an administrative Assistant to Mr. James Young Bell at the Bell Motel and was the motel’s switchboard operator. She also went to beauty school, although she never worked as a cosmetologist, this course of study proved to be very useful. She and her husband soon became parents and raised five daughters. They desired to have a son and during 1976, they adopted their son Gabe. Before the adoption could be finalized, they had to prove they were legally married and they had difficulty obtaining their Mexican marriage license…so after 27 years of marriage, they filed to obtain a marriage license in Nolan County, Texas and made the front page of their local newspaper at the time. Their teenage daughter, Lee, was their witness at this civil ceremony at the Nolan County, Texas courthouse. Rosa would often cut her husband’s hair and her children’s hair. When she was not working and raising children, she enjoyed fishing with her husband, sewing, hand crafts such as embroidery and crocheting. She was quite an artisan. She also gardened and delighted in growing fruits and vegetables, but most of all beautiful flowers. In her late 30’s, she completed a millinery program and made custom hats. Her daughter Rita, had a hat for ever dress she owned. She prided herself in making beautiful dresses and clothing for her family.
Rosa embodied the beautiful attributes of a wonderful Mother and Grandmother and she loved her children and grandchildren fiercely.
