Stanley Houdek

November 9, 1929 — February 14, 2018

A Mass of Christian Burial for Stanley Martin Houdek, 88, of Caldwell is set for 3:00 p.m., Saturday, February 17, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Caldwell, with Fr. Bernard Hung officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. A Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 16, 2018 at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell. Stan, our loving brother, uncle, Dad, Papa, and friend passed away peacefully on February 14, 2018 in Round Rock, Texas.

Stan was born November 9, 1929 to Albert and Mary Houdek in Caldwell, Texas. He was one of nine children. Stanley grew up in Caldwell and graduated from Caldwell High School in 1947. He later moved to Bryan where he worked for Texas A & M Dining Hall in 1951 as food manager. He entered into active duty in the United States Armed Forces in 1951 and fought in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1953. Upon entering back into the workforce Stanley worked for Coca Cola Bottling Company in Bryan before moving to Houston to become store manager for Goodyear Tire Company. He later transferred back to Bryan with Goodyear where he continued to work as store manager until his retirement.

He was a long time member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bryan before moving to Caldwell where he remained until the last year and a half of his life. He lived out the remainder of his life at The Court Senior Living Facility in Round Rock, Texas.

Stanley loved his farm where he raised cattle, hunted deer, and spent many family weekends there as well as enjoying many dances at Frenstat Hall. Stanley loved to dance and really appreciated his Czech heritage, Polka music and he was always up for a good ole’ waltz.

He was a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4458, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and Knights of Columbus.

Stan was preceded in death by his parents; his former wife of 29 years, Pat (Heine) Houdek; brothers, Benjamin, Daniel, and Ludwig; along with sisters, Annie Meschewitz, and Helen Supak.

He is survived by children, Rick & Gail Houdek of Georgetown, Texas, Nan & David Latimer, Lisa Houdek, all of Leander, Texas; grandchildren, Mandy & Lee Lane, Lacey & Eric Miller, Corey Latimer; great grand blessings, Landry, Gracey, Audrey and Eli; sisters and brother-in-law, Emily & Arnold Sefcik, Hattie Houdek all of Texas City; brother Andrew Houdek of Louisiana; sister-in-law, Mildred Houdek of Bryan; numerous nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the staff at The Court Senior Living Facility in Round Rock, Texas for the assistance and love that was shared throughout the facility.

Pallbearers will be Steven Houdek, Lee Lane, Corey Latimer, Glenn Meschewitz, Eric Miller, and Danny Sefcik. Acting as honorary pallbearers will be James Alexander, Blaine Houdek, Jimmy Jones, George Jurica, Johnny Kovar, Joe Rychlik, Jack Dillard and Byron Sefcik.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made in memory of Stan Houdek to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
