Virginia Mathews

Services for Virginia Elizabeth (Ryan) Mathews, 97, of Caldwell are set for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 7, 2019 at Macedonia Hix Baptist Church near Caldwell. Interment will follow at Hix Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at the Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell. Mrs. Mathews passed from this world on February 1, 2019 at her home.

Virginia was born in Culpeper, VA on October 9, 1921 to Edgar Ryan and Virginia E. (Johnson) Ryan.

She was member of Macedonia Hix Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School earlier in her life. Her hobbies were making quilts, baking and crocheting. She was a light house to all those she met. Her life was a living testimony to the saving power of her Lord Jesus Christ. The love of Jesus was in everything she did. She was a blessing to all that knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Charles Ryan, Sam Ryan; husband Calvin Leo Mathews; two sons, Ernest L. Mathews, Edward S. Mathews; sister-in-law, Christine Mathews Downey; and great granddaughter Misty Lynn Ellard.

Survivors include; daughter, Judith & Frank Boley; six grandchildren, Kay & Al Kral, Tommy & Rosa Pruett, Michael Pruett, Christine & John Rios, Deborah & Stephen Bales, Keri Johnson; fourteen great grandchildren, Anthony Kral, Mitchel Kral, Jason Kral, Yance Pruett, Lydia Pruett, Ethan Pruett, Nathan Pruett, Matthew Ellard, Mark Rios, Kevin Bales, Kaylee Bales, Nicholas Johnson, Damian Johnson, Kera Johnson; and three great-great grandchildren, Austin Kral, Coletin Kral, and Faith Elizabeth Garcia.
